The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation will be hosting an important consultation titled “Review of Milestone Setting for SDGs National Indicators” on August 16, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. This one-day program will bring together officers from various line ministries and departments of the Government of India, as well as representatives from NITI Aayog and MoSPI, to review and fine-tune national milestones for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators.
Shri Suman K. Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, will be the Chief Guest for the occasion. The fact that India has been a member of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) since January 2024 and is part of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) for the 2023-25 term underscores the significance of this consultation. It is crucial that India’s inputs play a key role in the ongoing 2025 Comprehensive Review of the global SDG indicator framework, ensuring that national indicators align with international standards.
MoSPI has developed a National Indicator Framework (NIF) to monitor the progress of SDGs at the national level. On June 29, 2024, the ministry published the ‘Sustainable Development Goals – National Indicator Framework Progress Report 2024,’ along with other SDG-related publications derived from this report.
The consultation will focus on reviewing milestone setting for SDG indicators in light of the latest updates to the SDGs-NIF, which is essential for tracking the progress of SDGs up to 2030 and ensuring that India meets its global commitments. The event will also aim to update and sensitize various ministries and departments about recent developments related to the 2025 Comprehensive Review of the SDGs Global Indicator Framework.
