Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, one of the top pharmaceutical companies in India, has made an announcement regarding a new antibiotic, STARIZO (Tedizolid Phosphate), for the treatment of severe skin infections. These include infections such as Acute Bacterial Skin and Skin Structure Infections (ABSSSI) caused by drug-resistant bacteria, including MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), which are hard to treat.
This new drug has been developed in collaboration with MSD to be produced and marketed by Sun Pharma in India. STARIZO is unique, given that it needs to be taken just once a day for six days, which would be shorter and more convenient than other currently available treatments that require the intake of medicines twice daily for 10-14 days.

Skin infections are quite common in India, accounting for about 29-32% of all infections during these recent years. These infections are sometimes challenging to treat in people who have conditions such as diabetes and kidney problems. A rising number of infections are being caused by MRSA in India. That is why it is important for India to have effective antibiotics like STARIZO. STARIZO is used in the management of infections by inhibiting and even killing bacterial infections such as MRSA. It is safe in old patients and in people ailing from liver or kidney problems, with no dosage adjustment.
This launch will arm doctors and patients in India with a potent new tool to fight serious skin infections.
