PM GatiShakti Capacity Building Workshop in Thiruvananthapuram
Government officials and district collectors convene in Thiruvananthapuram for a PM GatiShakti Capacity Building Workshop, focusing on infrastructure planning and collaboration across Southern India.

Thiruvananthapuram is set to host the third district-level PM GatiShakti (PMGS) Capacity Building Workshop on August 13, 2024, as part of a series of seven pan-India workshops aimed at bringing the PM GatiShakti initiative to the district and local levels. Organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) with technical support from the Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG-N), the event will cover 14 districts from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.

The workshop will see the participation of Shri P. Rajeev, Kerala’s Minister for Industries, Coir, and Law, alongside District Collectors from the participating districts, as well as officials from various State Departments and Central Ministries/Departments.

The key objectives of the workshop include:

  1. Showcasing best practices and successful use cases of PM GatiShakti by Infrastructure and Social Sector Ministries and Departments, including the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Shipping & Waterways, Department of Telecommunications, Department of School Education, and Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  2. Integrating PM GatiShakti’s geo-spatial technology with NITI Aayog’s aspirational districts program to promote collaboration and better planning.
  3. Demonstrating the utility of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP) platform in the effective planning of infrastructure, social, and economic facilities, with a focus on the role of District Collectors in facilitating comprehensive area-based planning.

The expected outcomes include improved planning and implementation of the Area Development Approach, ensuring saturation of selected locations with necessary social and economic infrastructure, and enhancing first and last-mile connectivity. These efforts aim to foster inclusive growth and sustainable development across the region.

This workshop in Thiruvananthapuram follows similar events held in Bhopal and Pune, which brought together District Collectors and officials from multiple states to share experiences and strategies. The workshops are part of a broader initiative to onboard more districts onto the PM GatiShakti NMP, fostering collaboration among districts, states, and central agencies.

As PM GatiShakti continues to gain momentum, these workshops are crucial for building capacity and driving integrated infrastructure planning at the grassroots level.
