The 17th Divya Kala Mela, organized by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment’s Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, is set to open in Raipur on August 17, 2024. Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar will inaugurate the event, which will highlight the skills and creativity of over 100 Divyang artisans, artists, and entrepreneurs from 20 States/UTs.
The Mela will feature a vast selection of handcrafted goods, including home decor, lifestyle products, clothing, eco-friendly items, and packaged foods. These products reflect the rich cultural diversity and artistic talent of their makers, providing a platform for these entrepreneurs to reach a broader audience.
“The Divya Kala Mela is a significant step towards empowering Divyangjan by showcasing their talent and offering them economic opportunities,” said Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment.
Since 2022, the Divya Kala Mela series has been organized in various cities across India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, and Guwahati. These events have received widespread acclaim for their role in promoting skill development and market access for Divyang artisans.
The Raipur Mela will extend financial assistance through initiatives like the Loan Mela, helping participants enhance their businesses and achieve greater economic self-reliance. Additionally, the event will include job fairs aimed at boosting employment opportunities for Divyangjan.
While the Mela provides valuable exposure, some have raised concerns about the need for sustained support and long-term market access for Divyang entrepreneurs beyond these events.
The event will also feature the Divya Kala Shakti cultural programme, where Divyang artists will showcase their talents in music, dance, and drama, further highlighting their diverse abilities.
The 17th Divya Kala Mela in Raipur is poised to be a significant event in empowering Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs, providing them with both market exposure and financial support, while celebrating their cultural contributions.
