Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar called on the industry, trade, and commerce sectors to prioritize local production over avoidable imports. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar today urged the industry, trade, and commerce sectors to focus on local production rather than relying on avoidable imports. Speaking at the Swarna Bharat Trust in Venkatachalam, Dhankhar stressed the importance of economic nationalism, highlighting it as a key aspect of the Swadeshi movement and a reflection of the “vocal for local” initiative. He noted that unnecessary imports drain foreign exchange and hinder domestic entrepreneurship and job creation.
Dhankhar emphasized the critical need for the optimal consumption of natural resources, warning that overuse driven by economic strength could jeopardize future generations. He cautioned against reckless spending, urging citizens to prioritize necessity over financial power. Additionally, Dhankhar expressed concern over the export of raw materials, such as iron ore, without value addition, which he believes weakens the nation’s economic framework and employment potential.
“If we spend unnecessarily based on the power of money, we are putting the future generation in danger,” stated Dhankhar, highlighting the long-term risks of unsustainable practices.
The Vice-President’s address aligns with ongoing efforts by the Indian government to promote self-reliance and reduce dependency on imports. The “vocal for local” campaign has been a cornerstone of this policy, encouraging industries to bolster domestic production and support local businesses to strengthen the national economy.

Dhankhar invoked a Rig Veda shloka, urging collective action: “Let us move together. Let us speak in one voice, and always for the nation.” He emphasized that national unity and a focus on the greater good are crucial for achieving these goals.
