The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the first-ever export of ready-to-drink fig juice, made from GI-tagged Purandar Figs, to Poland. This shipment, which departed on August 1, 2024, underscores India’s growing presence in the global agro-product market.

On August 1, 2024, the first shipment of India’s ready-to-drink fig juice, made from GI-tagged Purandar Figs, was exported to Poland. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) played a pivotal role in facilitating this export, marking a significant achievement for Indian agro-products on the global stage.

The journey of this innovative fig juice began at the APEDA Pavilion during the SIAL 2023 in Greater Noida, New Delhi. The product, produced by Purandar Highlands Farmers Producer Company Ltd., received considerable attention, winning an award at the event, which paved the way for its introduction to the global market.

“This export is a testament to the potential of Indian agro-products and the relentless efforts of APEDA to promote them globally,” said Shri Abhishek Dev, Chairman of APEDA.

APEDA has been instrumental in supporting smallholder farmers since the first export of fresh GI-tagged Purandar Figs to Hamburg in 2022. Their ongoing assistance has been crucial in developing and exporting innovative agricultural products like this fig juice, which has already been granted a provisional patent.

This milestone not only enhances the global presence of Indian agricultural products but also demonstrates the value of research and development in boosting agricultural exports. The success of the fig juice export highlights the importance of FPCs in promoting sustainable practices and elevating the international profile of India’s unique agro-products.

Despite this success, the challenge remains in maintaining consistent quality and supply to meet the growing international demand. Continued support from APEDA and other stakeholders will be essential to ensure the sustainability of such exports.

The fig juice was also showcased at Macfrut 2024 in Rimini, Italy, where it received a positive response from international buyers, further expanding its market reach.

The successful export of fig juice to Poland exemplifies India’s potential in the global agro-product market. With continued innovation and support, Indian products are poised to make a significant impact on the international stage.
